Bee Connected

Econaut is established as a social entrepreneurship model with the aim to work on development and execution of projects in the realm of green infrastructure, raising standards in urban ecology based on sustainable principles and community participation in the process of planning and designing. We are searching for the solutions that improve public space and use of commons as places that incorporate nature, biodiversity, food, culture and play. Our projects are linking green economy and social entrepreneurship as the ways of solving ecological, social and economic problems and engaging public by organizing various activities: events, lectures, workshops, campaigns.

Bee Connected was created with the idea of including and informing the general public, about the extinction problems, bees and other insect pollinators are facing. Due to global climate crisis and local use of pesticides, our food systems are more and more becoming vulnerable and threatened if bees are lost. By protecting bees, we are protecting local biodiversity, our environment, and our health, which depends on access to a variety of nutrition, fresh fruit and vegetables, for which the preservation of the bees is necessary. Of the 100 most-used plants in human nutrition, bees are pollinating 70. So, two-thirds of our diet depends on bees. Within the project, we are placing hives in suitable locations around Belgrade, promote the planting of gardens that attract bees and other pollinators in order to make small and large oases of biodiversity in the urban and suburban areas. We are also launch an urban beekeeping school so that interested students can receive training for bee keeping in urban conditions. The project was designed and implemented under the following project: Nova Iskra, ecological organization Ekonaut, Happy Honey and bee keeper Sladjan Simonović.
