On the occasion of the opening of its first regional center in Sarajevo, independent cultural center Mikser House, supported by the Youth Employment Project (YEP) and the Government of Switzerland, announced a competition for graphic designers and illustrators from the former Yugoslavia for the design of the facade of the future regional cultural center Mikser House that will open on September 8, 2017 in Sarajevo.
The competition’s aims was to create new opportunities for professional realization of creative talents from the Balkans and the promotion of graphic design as a discipline outside the expected media, in the urban space. The authors were asked to come up with a creative solution for the facade of an abandoned factory building which will be transformed into “factory of culture”, and contribute to the revitalization of the industrial neighborhood Pofalići, taking into account that their solutions reflect the main values promoted by cultural center “Mikser House”: multiculturalism, urban spirit, connecting the region with culture, the idea of an open society for all.
Jury consisting of Mirko Ilic, illustrator, graphic designer and Professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York; Bojan Hadžihalilović, graphic designer and Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo and Maja Lalic, architect, urban designer and creative director of Mikser Festival in Belgrade has selected 20 finalists out of 97 contestants to be shown in the exhibition “House for all our people” in the Design zone of the Mikser Festival. The jury will declare the final winners of the Contest on the last day of the festival, Sunday, May 28, at 5pm. The winning proposal will be executed on the façade of the cultural center Mikser House in Sarajevo.
