Reflecting on the urban and architectural future of Belgrade

Our cities and society are facing the destruction of architectural and cultural heritage, often without any consultation with citizens or independent experts. Stripped of context, construction that promotes questionable social values is taking place at the expense of public spaces and collective identity. This panel discussion creates space for reflecting on the urban and architectural future of Belgrade and other cities in Serbia from the perspective of “the day after” — the moment when we are forced to confront the consequences of years of destructive spatial policies. The conversation will address key questions that will inevitably face the professional public: What should be done with projects that have irreversibly damaged the identity of the city, devastated public space, and contributed to social fragmentation? Which buildings, values, and spatial patterns deserve restoration and symbolic rehabilitation?
