Implementing NBS Into Cities: Challenges and Success Stories

Implementing NBS Into Cities: Challenges and Success Stories
Probing the global NBS implementation scene, we become fully aware that all cities, no matter how developed country they are in, no matter the openness of the society and the availability of different crucial resources and tools, face significant challenges in introducing nature into their cores and relying the process onto the participation of the greatest experts on local microenvironments – the citizens. We will hear testimonials by representatives from cities Bogota, Gladsaxe (The Greater Copenhagen Area), Palermo, Piraeus, and Trebinje who are active protagonists in several international cooperation projects bringing global expertise for the implementation of urban solutions inspired by nature, with the involvement of local residents. What are their achievements, and what are the most common challenges? Are their experiences relevant and applicable to the circumstances in Serbia – climate-, socioeconomic-, and policy-wise? What can Serbian cities learn from these lessons learned and in a different direction, what valuable insights can Serbian experts provide back?
