REGIONAL COMPETITION FOR YOUNG BALKAN DESIGNERS: “YOUNG BALKAN DESIGNERS 2022: Life Hacks for Health and Wellbeing”
The Mikser Association invites young designers and other curious creatives up to the age of 35 to apply for the international competition Young Balkan Designers 2022 from December 8, 2021, to January 20, 2022, which is taking place this year under the slogan “Life Hacks”.
The call is valid for individuals and teams, each participant can apply with multiple projects by filling out a new application, and designers can be from the following countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and Turkey.
The competition seeks ingenious and witty design solutions, projects, objects, concepts, services, scenarios, and inventions that contribute to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle and user well-being, and initiates a conversation about alternative “design shortcuts” to a better everyday life: at home, at school or work, in public, in our intimate and shared spaces, urban and rural environments, in our physical and digital environment.
We encourage young creators to think beyond the constraints of mass, industrial production and pave the way for self-sustaining, simple, and affordable personalized solutions that foster inclusion and equality by providing choice and flexibility for different users and inspiring family, team, and community members to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles, unite and help each other.
Designers can deliver innovative solutions for furniture, lighting, interior elements, everyday items, urban gardening innovations, didactic toys and tools, accessories, office supplies, school supplies, home accessories, textiles, protective equipment, fashion clothing, innovative and environmentally friendly materials, and procedures; urban services, design services; digital solutions to improve everyday life; innovative design and production scenarios that offer economically and socially sustainable solutions to local problems, both in urban and rural areas.
The international jury that will evaluate the innovation and applicability of design solutions submitted to the competition consists of Marcus Fairs, founder and editor-in-chief of one of the world’s most relevant design portals Dezeen.com from Great Britain, alumni of Young Balkan Designers, now young authors: Ana Kraš, multiple talented artist and designer from Serbia who works and lives in the USA, Vasso Asfi and Loukas Angelou, design tandem StudioLav from Greece who successfully builds a career in the UK, Jovana Zhang Bogdanovic, co-founder of the award-winning design team Pinwu in China that combines traditional crafts with modern experimental design, Denis Leo Hegic, designer and curator, founder of Supermarket Lab / Unblock Art Fair / Museum of Now, Germany
The selected winners of the Young Balkan Designers 2022 competition will receive an award in the form of participation in the international talent show “Salone Satellite” at the world’s most prominent design event – the International Furniture Fair in Milan 2022, which is held from 5 to 10 April 2022. After the world premiere, the awarded works will be presented to the domestic and regional audience in Belgrade at the beginning of October 2022, at the Mikser Festival, one of the most important regional festivals of creativity and social innovation.
