Photographers and enthusiasts Željko Mandić and Milan Vlaški will demonstrate the Wet Plate Collodion photographic technique during the Mikser Festival. This technique, invented in 1851, was widely used until the 1870s, when it was gradually replaced by less demanding photographic processes. Nevertheless, in some of its unique qualities, this method has never truly been surpassed.
The process is based on a wet procedure that requires photographic plates to be prepared, exposed, and developed within a short time frame—while still wet.
As part of the festival, we will present the Wet Plate process and demonstrate the technique on-site, capturing compelling moments of performers on the Dvorište stage.
The photograph “We Are Coming,” created using the Wet Plate Collodion technique, will also be exhibited at the Mikser Festival. A tragic event in Novi Sad sparked a wave of unrest across the country. The photograph captures one of many processions approaching Belgrade, led by students in search of a better and more just society.
