Of over 200 submissions received for this year’s Next Gen Design 2025 competition: “Redesign Tomorrow, Today,” an international jury selected 52 of the most innovative works by young designers from 20 European countries.
This year’s theme – “Redesign Tomorrow, Today” – inspired a new generation of designers to offer creative solutions for a more sustainable, inclusive, and just future. Their ideas are bold, original, courageous, and radiate the energy of change that begins now.
The works were chosen by an international jury composed of experts in design, art, and activism: Birgit Lohmann (Germany/Italy), designer, curator, co-founder of designboom, and founder of the platform NOT COMPROMISED; Laura Clèries (Spain), design researcher and director of The Hut Agency; Zoran Jedrejčić (Croatia/Serbia), designer and artistic director; David Jablonovski (Austria), activist and co-founder of the collective Klimadashboard.org; and Amanda Pinatih (Netherlands), curator of design and contemporary art at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
As part of the Next Gen Design Traveling Exhibition, the selected works are divided into five thematic sections that highlight key social challenges and new paths for design action:
Design for All – Projects emphasizing inclusivity as a core value, offering solutions that are accessible and fair for everyone.
New Value – Works that rethink waste as a resource, using discarded materials and forgotten objects to create circular and sustainable systems.
Technology in the Service of People – Projects redefining the role of technology as a tool to empower communities and foster positive social change.
Rejecting the Familiar – Radical reexaminations of everyday objects and processes through a blend of traditional knowledge and speculative design.
Reconsideration – Interventionist and critical works that challenge social norms and encourage new ways of thinking about identity, materials, and our relationship with the world.
Visitors of the Mikser Festival 2025 will have the opportunity to be among the first to see this exhibition in Belgrade, after which it will travel to Amsterdam, Vienna, Barcelona, and Skopje.
