The main goal of the competition is to connect the importance of biodiversity conservation with the diversity of natural landscapes in Serbia and to emphasize the species that will be part of the future Natura 2000 network in Serbia.

Also, to show the general public the natural beauties of Serbia, and to motivate and remind the citizens of the importance of preserving the environment and the survival of the diverse flora and fauna.

The winner of the competition was Levente Sekeres with the photograph “Feeding”. The second prize was won by Violeta Milutinović with the photograph “Defiance”, while the third prize went to Anica Župunski for the photograph “Tiski cvet”.

The Natura 2000 network is an international ecological network of protected areas that are classified into two categories according to the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive. The project supports the Ministry of Environmental Protection to establish the first list of potential sites in Serbia that will be part of the European Natura 2000 network. The EU project for Natura 2000 in Serbia began in May 2019, with the aim of supporting the establishment of Natura 2000. The network is a key instrument for protecting biodiversity in the European Union. Natura 2000 is an ecological network of protected areas established to ensure the survival of the most valuable species and habitats, promoting the protection of many ecosystems and ensuring that Europe’s ecosystems remain healthy and resilient. It is based on the Birds and Habitat Directives, and its implementation is one of the requirements for accession to the European Union.
