The Natura 2000 network is an international ecological network of protected areas that are classified into two categories according to the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive. The project supports the Ministry of Environmental Protection to establish the first list of potential sites in Serbia that will be part of the European Natura 2000 network. The EU project for Natura 2000 in Serbia began in May 2019, with the aim of supporting the establishment of Natura 2000. The network is a key instrument for protecting biodiversity in the European Union. Natura 2000 is an ecological network of protected areas established to ensure the survival of the most valuable species and habitats, promoting the protection of many ecosystems and ensuring that Europe’s ecosystems remain healthy and resilient. It is based on the Birds and Habitat Directives, and its implementation is one of the requirements for accession to the European Union.
